10 Best Anime Films from Japan

I almost forgot: AKIRA is not on this list! Why not?! Steamboy's good, too, but Akira's in a league of it's own and is certainly one of the 10 most important, if not the 10 best, anime films of all time. Otomo is one of the three great animators currently living (Miyazaki and Kon being the other two).There's no excuse for Akira not making the cut.

Well, yeah, Hayao Miyazaki is clearly the most respected Japanese animator in the states (and Europe as well), but please stop overlooking the genius of Satoshi Kon! That fluid animation, those brilliant stories, the powerful imagery... and so many genres! A different one each time!Millennium Actress should be on that list. Or the ground-breaking Perfect Blue. Or Tokyo Godfathers. Or Paprika, for goodness sake! Give Mr. Kon some credit, please.5cm Per Second was also beautiful and deserves a nod, as does The Places Promised in our Early Days. Blood: the Last Vampire (the film, NOT the weaker series that followed) also marked a turning point in anime technique and is quite aesthetically pleasing.

this summer im watching all of hayao miyazakis film again theyre so good!

for me... toki wo kakeru shoujo, byousoku 5cm, deathnote, nhk ni youkoso, basilisk, studio ghibli films, and the recently released Sword of the Stranger.   i've also seen a trailer (i dont know if its a movie or a series) showing a boy a girl and a giant blob that resembles a whale or a fetus or both, that transforms into a fighter plane of some sort. i forgot the title, but it looks interesting.

10 best animes, six from Hayao Miyazaki? I couldn't agree more. But I like that one with the flying pig much more than the one with the flying witch.
