A plumbing blunder at Hiroshima University's Higashi-Hiroshima Campus resulted in toilet water being sent to drinking taps for more than a decade, it has emerged.

University officials announced the mix-up on Friday. The problem was uncovered after about 80 students at the campus who drank the water in July fell ill, with symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea.

Officials said the pipes for high quality drinking water and low grade toilet flushing water at the gymnasium on the campus had been attached the wrong way around. They said it was believed the pipes had been fitted incorrectly since the gymnasium was completed in April 1993.

Wrong is Right

Yes wrong you are right. I've traveled to Japan and several other Asian countries. It is very common to see the generic water lines labled "not potable" or "not for drinking." Most people just buy bottled water in those places. Here in the US we have so many useless restrictions and regulations, still our municipal water supplies aren't all that great. Don't complain too much though. I'm sure the government would love an excuse to impose more regulations and raise taxes...

Most of you have got it all wrong. It's not the waist water they are talking about. In many smarter parts of the world there are two water supples in a city, drinking water and gray water.   The drinking water is fit to drink, the gray water is good for things like flushing toilets and washing cloths. This saves the drinking water for drinking and cooking.   In the USA you waist billions of gallons of drinking water using it for flushing your toilets or watering lawns and farms.   By failing to set up a system for distribution or use if secondary, or gray water, the US is fast depleting its water supplies.

You all are idiots. The water that goes into your toilet reservoir is the same water that comes out of your shower and faucet. Unless of course the retards hooked up the toilets so when you turn your tap on, it comes directly from the water sitting in the bowl. Then in that case, OMG can you say E Coli? AV
