Worlds Most Difficult Languages

Most Difficult Languages in the World
Which language do you think is the most difficult language for a native English speaker to learn? Russian, Hebrew, Eskimo, Arabic or Vietnamese?

The Foreign Service Institute (FSI), the US Federal Government's primary training institution for officers and support personnel of the U.S. foreign affairs community, believes that for a native English speaker, Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese and Korean are the world's most difficult languages. According to their finding, people usually spent the longest time (88 weeks/2200 class hours in average) learning them in order to gain proficiency.

However these finding won't have much effect on British nationals it seems considering that they don't much care about learning a foreign language. A recent British survey shows, only one in 10 UK workers could speak a foreign language. Less than 5% could count to 20 in a second language, 80% said they could work abroad anyway, because "everyone speaks English"!

World's Most Difficult Languages are:
1. Arabic
2. Cantonese
3. Mandarin Chinese
4. Japanese
5. Korean

To have a comprehensive grasp of one of them, 88 weeks (2200 class hours) will be required.

This topic always creates a lot of debate and differing opinions. We published an article on the hardest languages to learn last year and got a lot of responses. We conducted a poll where people can vote for what they think the hardest languages to learn are http://www.lexiophiles.com/english/top-list-of-the-hardest-languages-to-learn . Were hoping to come to some kind of conclusion!

For me, it is quite easy to learn English than other language. I agreed with Arabic being one of the most difficult language to learn. It is a pain to memorise combination method than the letter.

the irony is that English is one of the hardest languages to learn. I think Japanese and Korean are relatively easy to learn... MUCH easier to learn than English with its exceptions and many rules..
